The Truth Hurts

Why don't people respect the truth?  People ask you a question or your opinion on something, you tell them the truth and they get upset with you; I don't get it.  Now I understand if it's something that could really hurt someones feelings or publicly humiliate them, but simple things need the truth, otherwise the people you surround yourself with will just continue to live the lie that you are fueling them with.  The perfect exampe of this is Simon Cowell; he tells it to you like it is.  If you're not good he straight up tells you, "You're not good".  Sometimes it seems kind of harsh, but in the end, you know he's right.  If we lived in a world where the truth was told to people more often, people would stop wasting time with petty things and get more work done.
